De puentes y viaductos
Several years ago the bridges and viaducts I saw afar or crossed during my road trips started to call my attention. Their games with vacuums; their sculptural shapes; their massive and at the same time light standing; their gigantic scale in most cases.
These and other qualities fascinated and still fascinate me. Their relationship with landscape also attracts me. They are a foreign element but on the other hand, they fit in and complement it. Some of them frame it and in doing so they remind me of a theater stage. In others, their pillars come out from nature like slender monsters that they are.
Their primary function of providing easier voyages and in the end, closer relations among people, inspires me as much or more than all the above.
And so I started to photograph them and what you see here is only a sample of what I’ve reached up to now. I intend to go on this tricky relationship. And I say tricky because most of them are elusive, not allowing themselves to be photographed as I would like.
I should state here my admiration and thanks to the designers, engineers and all who directly and indirectly were a part in their construction. In sum, this show is only the translation of my gaze upon their creations.
