Street Portraits
I intend to go on making street portraits, especially in New York City, indefinitely. I very much enjoy the brief encounters I have with most of my subjects. In each of them there is a fleeting, very close human exchange and then…we are gone. The images and the memories of how they were made remain. I also make a minor part of these portraits in a candid way: I just shoot and usually leave. In these cases you see the portrait there and then. You can either push the button right away or forget about it because in less than seconds it will vanish. Sometimes they will realize they are being photographed and relish it. Quite often they will never know. And in just a few instances they will notice and object, in which case the shooting will cease and some sort of negotiation will take place. From here I say thank you to all the persons in my images.
